철공소들이 자리하고 있는 을지로 구역은 마치 ‘스팀펑크(산업혁명 배경의 SF)’ 의 기운을 내뿜고 있었으며, 근방의 세운상가부터 진양상가로 이어지는 라인은 신식 건물과는 다른 건축 양식으로 특색있는 느낌을 자아내었다. 그 감동은 예술범주를 포함한 나 자체의 성향과 닮아 있었으며, 이러한 느낌들이 기표로서 어떻게 표현될 수 있는지 문자화하였다. 작업이 되어질 벽은 미리 정해두지 않았으며, 즉석의 공간 분석과 함께 나의 작업 핵심어들을 늘어놓았다.
Images from Steampunk (SF genre set during the Industrial Revolution) came into my mind when I saw Euljiro area and all the machine shops. The line that leads from Sewoon Arcade to Jinyang Arcade has a distinct character that can’t be found in new buildings. I felt a sense of recognition and expressed this feeling in texts. I didn’t choose a wall to work on in advance and I arranged my keywords impromptu.
