스트리트 아트는 그래피티를 뿌리로 두면서도, 그것들의 행위와 전통성과는 구별되는 문화를 만들었다. SUP(서울 어반아트 프로젝트) 에서의 작업들은 두 문화의 간극에서 나타나는 상대적 배반 행위로서 그래피티를 거쳐 스트리트 아트를 행하고 있는 나 자신에게 두통을 가져왔다. 어느 문화와 정치, 사회를 막론하고 보수와 진보가 서로 상생하는 것이 어려운 것처럼, 이 둘 또한 다른 이념으로 불이해관계에 있는지도 모른다. 나는 2012년 현재 스트리트 아트를 하며 작품결과의 가치를 추구하면서도, 그래피티의 행위에도 그들의 흔한 말처럼 ‘Respect’ 하고 있다.
‘SHOW MY NAME’ 은 그래피티의 보편적인 장르인 와일드스타일을 보여준다. 하지만 스트리트 아트가 그것을 덮으며 배반하고 있다. 명확해진 ‘HEZ’ 안에는 여전히 그래피티가 자리하며 ‘근본’, ‘창발’ 그리고 ‘상생’ 의 생태론적 입장에 포지셔닝하고 있다.
문화행위로서 활동하는 그래피티 라이터, 예술작업으로서 고민하는 스트리트 아티스트는 이해관계로 돌아서진 못할 수 있지만, 서로의 행보에 촉각을 곤두세워야함은 분명하다.

Street art is based on graffiti, but it has created a distinct culture which is different from graffiti’s tradition and act. While I was doing works for SUP, urban art project in Seoul, this difference gave me a headache. Like Progressive and Conservative that don’t go along in any societies, street art and graffiti, as two different ideologies, don’t go along either. I am not only pursues the outcome value of artworks I am involved in, but also respect action of graffiti.
‘SHOW MY NAME’ is a wild style, a common genre of graffiti. However, street art covers the graffiti work and betrays the principles of graffiti. In “HEZ”, graffiti is still strongly placed, and it position to its stance of basis, emergence, and coexistence.
Graffiti writers for the act of sub culture and street artists for artworks might not be understand each other but it is obvious that they need to pay sharp attention to their steps.
